International Applicants
Applying Online
All international applicants must submit an online application at apply.unomaha.edu.
Application Fee for International Students
- Fee Amount: $45.00 (U.S. dollars)
- Payment Requirement: The fee is mandatory. Applications will not be processed without payment.
- Non-Refundable: The fee is non-refundable, regardless of admission status.
- Payment Methods:
- Credit card
- Check or money order (payable to the University of Nebraska at Omaha)
- Fee Validity:
- The application fee is valid for one year.
- If an applicant does not enroll within a year, they must reapply and pay the fee again.
- Exception: Previous UNO students or those who attended another University of Nebraska campus (UNK, UNL, UNO, UNMC) are not required to pay the fee again.

Academic Records
- All applicants must submit transcripts from every high school, college, or university attended for admission.
- Final official transcripts from all institutions must be provided within the first eight weeks of enrollment.
- If original transcripts are not in English, a certified translation must be included.
- Applicants seeking to transfer credits from a foreign college or university to UNO must submit a course-by-course evaluation from a recognized member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
Passport Copy
Applicants must submit a clear copy of the passport information page to unointernational@unomaha.edu.
Proof of English Proficiency
Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following methods:
- U.S. High School Diploma – Must include four years of standard English classes.
- Standardized Test Scores – Minimum ACT English score of 20 (or SAT equivalent).
- U.S. College Coursework:
- Completion of an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree (GPA 2.5+).
- Completion of English Composition I or II with a grade of C or better (GPA 2.5+).
- Citizenship from a country on UNO’s English Proficiency Waiver List.
- Medium of Instruction (MOI) Letter – If your previous school’s primary language of instruction was English, an official letter must confirm that your entire academic program was taught in English.
- Official test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, or other approved tests)
- Test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency.
- TOEFL scores from other schools cannot be used.
- IELTS scores can also be sent via MavLINK or emailed to unointernational@unomaha.edu.
Proof of Financial Support (F-1 or J-1 Visa Students)
Applicants requiring an F-1 or J-1 student visa must provide proof of financial support.
- Required documents:
- Non-hypothetical and/or liquid funds (i.e., official bank statements) signed by the student and/or sponsor, with a bank seal
- UNO Financial Affidavit signed by the student and sponsor
- Documents must be less than six months old.

Note: Without these financial documents, UNO cannot issue the I-20 or DS-2019 form.
Conditional Admission
Applicants who do not meet UNO’s English language requirements may qualify for conditional admission.
Requirements for Full Admission:
- Complete UNO’s Intensive Language Program (ILUNO) with a qualifying score.
- ILUNO students must study for at least one session.
- Applicants with low test scores will be evaluated by the ILUNO Director to determine eligibility for full admission.
Important:
- A change of status of the Form I-20 will be made upon full undergraduate admission.
- Students must request a Form I-20 status update once fully admitted.
Non-Degree Seeking Student
International Students (F-1 or J-1 Visa Holders)
International students may apply as non-degree-seeking students if they:
- Have a permission letter from their current U.S. institution, allowing part-time enrollment at UNO while maintaining their I-20 from their home school.
- Are referred as part of an international exchange program between UNO and their home institution.
- Have a recommendation letter from their home institution or employer.

International Visiting Student Program (VSP) for Non-Degree Students
Applicants who require a visa to study in the U.S. may apply for UNO’s International Visiting Student Program (VSP).
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be currently enrolled at a UNO partner institution.
- Must be nominated by their home university.
- Must follow all application and documentation requirements from UNO and their home university.

Health Insurance
- All international students must enroll in UNO’s Student Health Insurance Plan, unless they have university-approved foreign insurance.
Admission for International Students
- Most admission decisions are made within one week after all documents are received.
- If admitted, students will receive an admission email with their I-20 form.
Receiving Your I-20

Form I-20 is issued only to the student and cannot be picked up or emailed to friends, family, or third parties.

J-1 visa applicants will receive their DS-2019 form along with their admission email.

F-1 visa holders enrolling part-time at UNO will not receive a new I-20.
