MUS 4830 ARRANGING FOR JAZZ ENSEMBLE II (3 credits)
This course provides students with advanced instruction in the principles and techniques of writing and arranging for large jazz ensembles. Topics include instrumentation, jazz harmony, voicings, rhythmic devices, orchestration, form, and analysis of historical styles. Students will create effective arrangements for big band by examining the dynamic and expressive qualities of instrument families as they relate to timbre, range, balance, and rhythmic variation.
